History

This neighborhood was first settled in 1681 under the name of Buckingham, named after Buckingham, England. The town was originally used as a port and dock which made it easy for factories, manufacturing companies and even the Bristol Shipyards to set up shop in Bristol. Because of its industrial heritage, during World War II, the shipyards were assigned the important task of constructing airplanes used for war.

Bristol became famous in 1961 when the song “Bristol Stomp” by The Dovells became a #2 hit on the Billboard pop charts.
