History

Coatesville is a city in Chester County, Pennsylvania located 39 miles west of the City of Philadelphia. The first known settlers of the town of Coatesville were the Native Americans, who built a village along the Brandywine River. William Fleming of Scotland was one of the first settlers to make this area their home. Shortly after in 1787, Moses Coates purchased the Fleming house and land and became a prosperous farmer. Because of his prominence, the town was later named after him. During the 19^th Century, due to the construction of the Pennsylvania Railroads, Brandywine became the prime location for Lukens Steel Company. It was the steel company that brought a diverse group of individuals seeking to work at the factory, thus populating the city of Coatesville.

Because of its rich heritage in steel making, Coatesville is a bustling community with plenty of factories and businesses.
