History

Because of the number of mills along the East Branch Brandywine Creek, Downingtown, Pennsylvania used to be called Milltown. It wasn’t until the American Revolution when well known Quaker businessman, Thomas Downing, took over ownership of several of the mills. After acquiring several mills, Milltown became known as Downingtown.
