History

Fort Washington was originally settled by a group of German immigrants. But in 1728, Philip Engard from England purchased 100 acres of land in the area. During the mid-18^th century, the town was known as Engardtown. During the American Revolutionary War, George Washington and his men camped in Engardtown. After the war, Engardtown became known as Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.
