New Home Sales Figures Better Than Reported

According to the Census Bureau, the number of new homes sold slid for the fourth straight month in August, easing 2 percent from July. On a seasonally-adjusted, annualized basis, home buyers bought 295,000 newly-built homes last month.

Home Affordability Still Tops Nationwide

The National Association of Home Builders reports a Q2 2011 Home Opportunity Index reading of 72.6. Nearly 3 of 4 homes sold last quarter were affordable to households earning the national median income of $64,200.

Existing Home Sales Slip In July

Existing Home Sales nationwide fell to 4.67 million units on a seasonally-adjusted annualized basis last month. It's the fourth straight month below the 5 million mark, and the report's lowest reading since November 2010.

Foreclosures Sink To 4-Year Low

According to RealtyTrac, a national foreclosure-tracking firm, the number of foreclosure filings nationwide fell 35 percent as compared to July 2010, a statistic suggesting that the housing market continues to improve.
